Posted on April 3, 2010.
Bronchitis SmokingWhat is bronchitis and what are the causes of bronchitis?

Bronchitis is an acute inflammation of the airways in the lungs. It occurs when the trachea (windpipe) and bronchi and small (airways) in the lungs become inflamed because of infection or other causes.

The thin membrane lining of these channels can be irritated and swollen.

The cells that make up this lining may leak in response to inflammation.

Coughing is a reflex that works for secretions from the lungs. Often, the discomfort of a severe cough leads you to seek medical treatment.

The main types of bronchitis:

The two main types of bronchitis are acute and chronic.

What causes bronchitis?

Acute bronchitis is usually caused by a virus. Often a person gets acute bronchitis after having an upper respiratory tract infection like a cold or the flu. In rare cases, acute bronchitis is caused by a bacterium

Acute bronchitis can also be caused by the inhalation of things that irritate the lungs, like smoke. It can also occur if a person inhales food or vomit into the lungs.

Acute bronchitis occurs when the Branchi infected. This infection causes swelling of the bronchial tubes and narrow. Mucus is also formed, which can accumulate in the tubes and prevent free breathing. In addition to the swelling occurs the breathing becomes increasingly difficult. This form of bronchitis is spread in much the same way as the common cold. inhaling air in which bacteria are present or making physical contact with objects or persons where bacteria can spread is this form of bronchitis.

Chronic bronchitis is defined as excessive mucus secretion in the bronchi and a chronic cough or recurrent mucus-producing lasting three months or longer and repeated year after year. People who suffer from chronic bronchitis are more susceptible to bacterial infections of the respiratory tract and lungs.

Unlike acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis is an ongoing process, a serious illness. Smoking is the main cause, but the pollution of air and dust or toxic gases into the environment or workplace can also contribute to the state. In some people, chronic inflammation of the airways can lead to asthma.

Some other reasons to cause bronchitis:

Smoking is the leading cause of chronic bronchitis. The substances in cigarettes and other forms of tobacco smoking cause irritation of the bronchi.

Bronchitis is usually caused by infection with a virus. However, bronchitis may also be caused by bacteria, smoking or inhalation of chemical pollutants or dust. The most common viruses that cause bronchitis are influenza A and B, the most common bacteria that causes bronchitis is Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Industrial pollution is another culprit. Chronic bronchitis is found in higher rates than normal among miners, grain handlers, metal molders, and other persons who are continually exposed to dust.

Breathe the air containing the virus particles or bacteria.

Touch an object that has been touched by an infected person and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth without washing hands.
