Why is my marijuana plants dry flaky? I planted them late in the year so I have cut them before winter hit. They were young when I cut, but I thought I would probably smoke the leaves and get a little high. I let them dry when I checked them and they felt like crispy pastry sheets
You do not smoke the leaves. You smoke bud. The leaves will probably give you a headache.
When you grow pot you are looking for female plants. You can tell by looking at the base of the first new leaves. If there are two twists that fate (about 1/16-inch), then it is a female. If there is a twist that comes out is a male. Pluck the male and female plant. The female buds, but males grow any leaves. If you let the males grow around females, you will get seeds. No men, no seeds.
As the plant matures, you will see where the buds are formed at the end of the main branches. Pinch the back (literally pinch these off). This will stimulate new side shoots that are born and Bud. Keep pinching for a bushy plant with lots of performance. Oh, and you can dry and smoke the buds pinched, even if they are not very powerful.
The first day of autumn, stop pinching and buds begin to give food plants bloom almost every week (Miracle Gro is good). Let them grow for a month or two, depending on the climate (do not leave them exposed to frost).
When you are ready to harvest, cut roots as close as you can, and hang them upside down in a cool dark place for about one week. You can then reduce them to smaller portions and store in a ziplock bag or jars that you use for your orders canning (the pots are best because they are airtight) .
You can not get up that you want to smoke marijuana leaves, you must allow your plant to mature and produce buds. Once the egg is about, say 3 "long, that you can harvest your plant. But you never want to cut all the buds below, you are always going to want to leave a little on the plant so that it continue to sprout.
On a side note, the female marijuana plants are those that produce the bud. You can tell if it is male or female, where the branches leave the main trunk, if there are small balls that there is a male, except that it is a female.
