Hemp Rings

I am puzzled as to how people put the ends of knotted hemp together to form shapes, rings, etc. I would try to make a peace sign for a necklace, and also a ring, but so far I can only make straight things like necklaces and bracelets. How people make shapes and rings?

burn the ends together and they look seamless
