Smoking Lungs

I heard somewhere that 5 or so years after quitting, your lungs heal. Is this true?

It is true that some changes due to smoking are reversible, but others are not, but the damage has already been made will always keep you below what is considered normal. For example, inflammatory changes are reversible, but not emphysema. The risk for lung cancer is higher among smokers> ex-smokers> those who have never smoked.
